Yasmine Foty is a senior at Jackson-Reed High School and will attend the University of Southern California in the fall of 2026, where she plans to study neuroscience. Inspired by her lifelong involvement in music and her experiences in engineering research, she hopes to study how music can be used to support stress regulation and neurological health. Through internships at the University of the District of Columbia and the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, Yasmine has explored aerospace, acoustic, and mechanical engineering while conducting research on music as a stress mitigation tool in high-pressure environments. Outside of academics, music has remained a central part of her life. She has studied classical guitar and voice for many years, performed classical Arabic music with her family band throughout the DC area, and participated in choir, theater, and music mentorship programs. Yasmine ultimately hopes to combine neuroscience, engineering, and music research to develop innovative approaches that improve mental well-being and quality of life.
