Solveig Wartchow is a senior at McKinley Technology High School, where she is a part of the NAF Academy of Biotechnology. Solveig is also a captain of the school’s soccer, track, and cross-country programs. She has gotten involved with her community by volunteering with local environmental organizations, including Sierra Club DC, helping to educate people about local environmental initiatives. Last summer, Solveig interned with the U.S. Naval Research Lab, where she helped to graph and animate historical data as part of an ongoing Arctic research project. This experience encouraged her to pursue a career in research as a bioengineer. In the fall, Solveig will be attending the University of Rochester, where she plans to major in biochemistry with a minor in materials science.
