Sitara Mazumdar is a graduating senior at BASIS DC. She will be attending Harvard University in the fall, studying Government and Women and Gender Studies. Sitara is Captain of the BASIS DC Policy Debate Team, and was named 2026 National Urban Debater of the Year. Her debate accomplishments have been recognized in Newsweek, PBS Newshour, NPR, and more. She also serves as a Student Representative on the DC State Board of Education, where she shapes local education policy and represents over 99,000 students across DC public and charter schools. Outside of academics, Sitara is an Honors Violinist at the Levine School of Music. She is also dedicated to giving back to her DC community, pioneering period poverty education initiatives like BloomAid DC, and volunteering with the Washington Urban Debate League. Inspired by her passion for policymaking and social justice, Sitara hopes to pursue a career in human rights law.
