Federal Regulatory Counsel (Job #21003532) – GCI’s Federal Regulatory Counsel will provide strategic legal, regulatory, and policy guidance to the company regarding federal telecommunications regulations, advocacy initiatives, and compliance obligations. Partner cross-functionally with business leaders and operational teams to proactively identify legal and regulatory risks, develop mitigation strategies, and support the consistent and effective execution of business initiatives in alignment with corporate governance standards and organizational objectives.
**Candidates must reside within 50 miles of Washington, DC.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Federal Regulatory Analysis & Advocacy
- Develop and advocate company positions on federal regulatory matters, with a focus on FCC regulations and telecommunications policy. Conduct legal analysis, identify risks, and address strategic regulaory issues.
- Collaborate across the organization to gather technical and operational insights, align on business priorities, and build consensus on advocacy strategies.
- Prepare clear legal analyses on regulatory risks, compliance, and recommended actions. Monitor federal legislation, regulatory developments, and industry trends, while coordinating with internal and external stakeholders.
- Support compliance with federal telecommunications requirements by advising leaders on regulatory obligations, developing implementation strategies, and assisting with ongoing monitoring and FCC filings.
- Represent GCI before the FCC and other agencies; build strong relationships with regulators and industry stakeholders; advance company priorities through advocacy and engagement.
- Advise business teams on the impact of regulations on operations, transactions, and strategic initiatives, ensuring compliance while supporting business goals.
- Promote GCI’s industry presence by participating in telecommunications groups, policy forums, and advocacy efforts; identify emerging opportunities and support regulatory strategy development.
Minimum Qualifications:
Required: *A combination of relevant work experience and/or education sufficient to perform the duties of the job may substitute to meet the total years required on a year-for-year basis
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- JD degree from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association.
- A minimum of four years of legal experience. *
- Admission to an appropriate Bar Association.
Preferred:
- Telecommunications experience.
- Law firm or FCC experience.
- Experience in the communications field and with the federal legislative and/or regulatory processes.
- Other relevant telecom industry or job specific certifications.
