AGENDA
This two-hour CLE program will explore how artificial intelligence is developing in the wireless ecosystem, including AI applications in wireless networks, spectrum and domestic policy considerations shaping AI development, key questions in international standards setting processes, and emerging trends and challenges in the States.
1:00 – 1:05 p.m. Welcome and Introductions
1:05 – 2:00 p.m. AI in Wireless Networks, Federal Policy, and International Standards
Artificial intelligence is advancing quickly—but it doesn’t run on innovation alone. It depends on the networks, spectrum, and broader connectivity ecosystem that make AI applications possible in the real world. This panel will explore how AI and communications infrastructure and technologies are evolving, including emerging applications shaping network management, optimization, and consumer experience. Panelists will also discuss the range of technologies and networks that will be critical to enabling AI applications and services, spectrum and other key policies they will require, and international standards questions they raise.
Moderator
Angela Kung, Partner/Chair, Technology, Communications & Media, Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo, P.C.
Panelists:
Traci Biswese, Vice President & Associate General Counsel, NCTA – The Internet & Television Association
Umair Javed, Senior Vice President & General Counsel, CTIA
Jeffrey Marks, Vice President, Government & Policy Advocacy, Ericsson
Becky Tangren, Vice President, Regulatory Affairs, North America, Nokia
2:00 – 3:00 p.m. AI Regulation at the State Level: Implications for the Wireless Industry
As states accelerate efforts to regulate artificial intelligence, wireless providers are confronting a rapidly evolving and often inconsistent patchwork of state AI laws governing automated decision-making, notice obligations, and AI governance requirements. These frameworks increasingly reach beyond traditionally “high risk” AI to encompass operational systems and customer facing tools. This panel will examine how enacted and pending state AI legislation—ranging from comprehensive AI governance regimes to narrower notice requirements—could affect core wireless use cases, including network management and optimization, marketing and advertising, customer service chatbots, and workforce management tools. Panelists will explore emerging compliance challenges and will offer practical strategies for navigating new state requirements.
