Position Summary. This position is responsible for helping shape NAB’s legal and policy positions and legal filings on issues related to radio and television copyright and intellectual property matters affecting the broadcasting industry, assisting with NAB’s corporate intellectual property, privacy and trademark matters and performing general legal work as assigned and based on the Organization’s needs.

Essential Functions.

• Develop, write and supervise the preparation of government agency pleadings, appellate briefs, and issue papers.
• Work closely with the government relations team to develop copyright policy positions on Capitol Hill, including on issues concerning music licensing.
• Serve as NAB’s copyright representative on panels, workshops and other public-facing events.
• Work with members of the international copyright community to further broadcast copyright issues across the globe.
• Respond to internal and member inquires on a variety of intellectual property issues.
• Edit and write memoranda and publications for members.
• Provide counsel on and support for NAB’s data protection, intellectual property and trademark efforts
• Draft release forms on behalf of NAB and its affiliates.
• Assist with legal review and drafting of NAB’s contracts, especially as they pertain to intellectual property.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements and Qualifications:

• Juris Doctorate required
• 3 – 10 years of related professional experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Demonstrated legal writing and research skills
• Ability to travel domestically up to 10% throughout the year
• Strong administrative, organizational, and time management skills
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Demonstrates strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.
