12:05 – 1:05 p.m. The Basics
What is the difference between a Musical Composition and a Sound Recording? What do ASCAP, BMI and SESAC do, and how are they different from SoundExchange? How does my client get rights to use music on the air, on its website and in its mobile application, at station sponsored live events and in commercials? Can advertisers play a radio station at their business without any rights fees? How are the fees set for these different kinds of music uses? These and other basic questions about music rights will be set in this first panel.
