The FCBA Consumer Protection Committee will sponsor a CLE entitled “FTC Fundamentals and Hot Topics” on Wednesday, March 4, 2020, from 3:15 – 5:30 p.m. The session’s panels will feature current and former FTC attorneys, who will discuss the FTC’s consumer protection and competition authority, how the FTC’s authority applies to the communications sector, and hot litigation and policy issues before the FTC.

This panel will provide an overview of the Commission’s structure, sources of enforcement and regulatory authority, and process.  Topics will include the FTC’s Section 5 authority and other rules it enforces, with an eye toward how they apply to the communications sector.

This panel will discuss some of the most pressing issues that are currently before the FTC in litigation and policy proceedings.  Topics will include emerging issues in privacy and big tech enforcement, the scope of the FTC’s remedial authority, and output stemming from the FTC’s recent hearings on competition and consumer protection policy in the 21st Century.
