The Young Lawyers Committee of the Federal Communications Bar Association (FCBA) and the FCBA Foundation will hold their 22nd Annual Charity Auction on Thursday, November 10, 2011, at the Hamilton Crowne Plaza Hotel, Sphinx Ballroom at the Almas Temple, 1315 K Street, NW, Washington, D.C., from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. Admission is free and the event is open to the public.
Proceeds from this year’s Charity Auction will benefit the Sitar Arts Center (“Sitar”) and the FCBA Foundation. Located in the Adams Morgan neighborhood of Washington, D.C., Sitar provides underserved children the opportunity to explore visual and performing arts in an after-school safe haven. Specifically, Sitar will use the proceeds to boost its “Arts Afterschool” program, which provides 350 students (ages 6-19) with more than 80 classes in music, dance, theater, creative writing, visual arts and digital arts as well as the opportunity to take private lessons in the Instrumental Music Academy.
The Charity Auction is one of Washington, D.C.’s premier “must-attend” events for the communications industry. The event features a live auction hosted by a professional auctioneer, silent auctions, and raffle drawings. Attendees should expect surprises and new and exciting prizes building on last year’s record-setting event (more than $130,000 raised), including vacation packages; electronics; tickets to Verizon Center events, concerts, theater shows, and various sporting events (including Redskins, Wizards, Capitals, and Nationals games); dinners, lunches, spa packages, and gift certificates from area businesses.
Over the past 21 years, the Charity Auction has raised more than $1.1 million for D.C.-based organizations, including Pediatric AIDS/HIV Care, Inc., the D.C. Children’s Advocacy Center, STEP/I Have a Dream, the Charitable Coalition for Children with Cancer, Kids Enjoy Exercise Now, Fair Chance, Kid Power-DC, Horton’s Kids, Bright Beginnings, and Project Wait No Longer.
